How Can Schools Use Modular Buildings?

Why You Need To Consider A Modular Building Science Lab For Your School

In the increasingly technological society of today, STEM research has become a prominent industry and more popular. In November this year, it was announced by the U.S. Department of Education that $200 million was going to be invested in STEM education to benefit students. As technology and science continue to grow those skills can continue to become more valuable not only for science majors but for all students who are entering into the workforce.

A ScienceFast article states that it is critical to have high-quality, recent science labs for schools to educate students. Since hands-on learning is required by science education along with group dynamics or understanding its concepts, so it is very important having a classroom environment that complements this style of learning. Despite that, there are many schools that are lacking in access to resources and equipment they need and are searching for ways to provide their students with access to these educational resources.

When a school is equipped with the most advanced and recent supplies and materials, it is setting themselves apart from its competitors within a constantly growing field. That is especially true for universities and colleges as they try academically stand out in the crowd.

Usually, colleges are updated with the most recent technology and supplies, but it is critical for early education as well. Science first explains that being interested in scientific research starts at an early age in children who are in science labs. It states that whenever they observe different things and conduct various experiments, it hones their reasoning skills and they begin to think deeply on the concepts and theories. Therefore, schools play a critical role in raising the next generation of doctors and engineers.

Science labs enable students to directly interact with data and materials. Laboratory experiments and teach encourage deep understanding in children. It is thought that children can retain knowledge for a longer period of time whenever they see experiments that are being performed right in front of them. Due to this, secondary and primary schools are changing how they teach their students science and the most important factor of all is the classroom’s environment. Schools that have a modular building laboratory are able to obtain the optimal learning area for just a fraction o the cost of other construction options that are available.

STEM-related facilities (with STEM standing for science, technology, engineering, and math) like the modular science lab offers schools an innovative educational building that they need for facilitating science and technology training.

At first, the temporary modular laboratory was bought to provide students at the Penn State Berk campus with the right educational work environment, which was fully equipped with work stations, lab tables, and sinks.

The incredible significance of the modular laboratory is it has been moved three times for the students at Penn State. It started out as a temporary lab on the Berks campus and was used as a swing area while large scale permanent construction was done. The lab was then relocated over to Hazleton, and then once again over to McKeesport.

Temporary modular laboratories for students have been chosen by other colleges besides Penn State. A construction project at the University of Delaware is underway currently where 32 modular buildings are being installed for laboratory classrooms. It is a major project that is being comprised of three different ten-plex classroom nits that two modular corridors connect.

There are not any photos of the project yet since the sections of the building haven’t been delivered to the site. However, you can only imagine how large of a laboratory building it will turn out being. The plan of the University is to use the temporary building for around 3 to 5 years until the permanent construction is completed on campus. That is another example of just how versatility modular laboratory buildings are able to be for universities and schools.

What Goes Into Making A Good Science Laboratory

While you are planning the layout of your modular building laboratory, it is critical to kind in mind the characteristics that go into a high-quality learning area.

Flexible Space

Multiple-purpose science labs should have flexible spaces. Chemistry, physics, and biology each have their own unique ways and need different kinds of learning environments due to that. That is why it is ideal having non-fixed equipment, materials and accommodating facilities for each separate field of science being taught in the lab.

Safety Features

It is also very important to consider safety features. Science laboratories have a potentially hazardous nature which means safety measures need to be considered carefully and be fully implemented. When there is a centralized switch for turning off the electronics and gas taps within the science laboratory it can help to reduce the risk that students will accidentally put their own welfare and also others students’ welfare at risk.

Technology

One of the major reasons why STEM research has become so popular with students is due to the advancements in technology that have taken place over the last couple of years. Science labs that are properly equipped with coding, robotics, and computers and inspire students to be passionate and innovative about STEM research. Students are becoming increasingly more engaged in building and creating when products such as 3D printers as well as other computer-connected equipment are incorporated into the classroom.
